ÁIS NUA EILE DON CHLÁR ‘MAR A DÉARFÁ!’ Ó BHREACADH
Feilfidh an stiall seo do pháistí a bhfuil Céim 1 de Mar a Déarfá! déanta acu. Seo áis thagartha ina ndéantar achoimre ar na bunchóid litrithe do phríomhfhuaimeanna na Gaeilge, ar an Aibítir / ord na hAibítre agus mar a scríobhtar na ceannlitreacha agus na litreacha beaga.
Cuirtear béim faoi leith sa stiall (le dathchódú) ar na fuaimeanna éagsúla a bhfuil litir éigin comónta acu, mar caithfidh léitheoirí óga a bheith in ann idirdhealú a dhéanamh, láithreach bonn, idir na haonaid éagsúla litrithe sin. Mar shampla;
- idir na 5 bhunfhuaim éagsúla a bhfuil an litir ‘a’ le feiceáil iontu (a / á / ai / abh / agh)
- idir na trí bhunfhuaim éagsúla a bhfuil ‘b’ le feiceáil iontu (b / ‘bh’ caol / ‘bh’ leathan).
Tá sé tábhachtach ag an staid seo den fhoghlaim go mbeadh ar chumas na léitheoirí óga an t-idirdhealú sin a dhéanamh ar an bpointe, agus gan stró, agus iad ag léamh téacsanna, le go bhfeicfidh siad cé acu ar fuaimeanna bunaithe ar litreacha aonair atá le léamh acu, nó fuaimeanna eile ar fad atá bunaithe ar chúpla litir in éineacht. Mar shampla: a / ai/ agh ?
Cuirfidh an áis seo ar chumas léitheoirí óga na cóid fuaime a sheiceáil agus féincheartú a dhéanamh nuair is gá … Agus ar ndóigh, beidh siad in ann cruth na litreacha a sheiceáil nó a dheimhniú ar an taobh eile den stiall – idir cheannlitreacha agus litreacha beaga – agus iad ag scríobh.

The ‘MAR A DÉARFÁ!’ Basic Code & Alphabet Strip (Connacht)
ANOTHER NEW ‘MAR A DÉARFÁ!’ LEARNING RESOURCE!
This reference strip is suitable for young learners on completion of Step 1 of the Mar a Déarfá! literacy programme. It enables learners and facilitators to check and self-correct, at a glance, their Basic Spelling Codes, the Alphabet and capital and lowercase letter formation.
Special emphasis is placed (through colour-coding) on various sounds that have a common letter in their spelling. It is essential that readers begin to differentiate between these sounds with automaticity, in order to read with fluency. For example, children must be able to differentiate between
- the 5 basic spelling codes in which we see the letter ‘a’ (a / á / ai / abh / agh)
- the 3 basic spelling codes in which we see the letter ‘b’ (b / ‘bh’ caol / ‘bh’ leathan).
It is important at this stage of the programme that the young reader be trained to differentiate readily between these spelling codes and sounds as he or she scans texts, in order to recognise a single-letter sound or if the letter is part of a ‘string of letters’ that makes a totally different sound. For example: a / ai/ agh ?
This resource will help young learners to become more independent and confident in their learning, as they check and self-correct their spelling codes and letters – big and small! – as necessary.
Last but not least … we also find our Code & Alphabet Strip very handy for drawing margins and straight lines! Who’d be without one!
